A Message from the Executive Director
As manager of Plant Operations and Maintenance, I am committed to and understand the
mission and goals of our organization. This commitment includes a clear and cognizant
vision of our scope, or "big picture", with an awareness of our department's role
within the University community.
I understand the importance of developing and communicating clear goals, principles,
and individual accountability to create and share the vision of the University. The
focus must be the vision and direction with consistent review to give our employees
a common purpose and sense of loyalty; for employees with purpose will complete meaningful
work and gain satisfaction in accomplishments. Therefore, it is imperative that we,
as managers, connect with our employees and set a positive pace. This would assure
positive changes in the Plant Operations and Maintenance Department at Florida A&M
University.
The mission of the Plant Operations and Maintenance Department is maintaining and repairing the infrastructure throughout the campus. These include the structural integrity of buildings, electrical and mechanical systems and underground utilities. Plant Operations and Maintenance also assures the cleanliness of all university facilities and grounds to maintain an environment conducive to learning.
Furthermore, we commit ourselves to "Creating One FAMU". We strive to provide responsive, reliable, and cost-effective services for the enhancement of a safe, comfortable, and aesthetically pleasing environment for our students, faculty, and staff.

Plant Operations and Maintenance is broken down into 5 strategic divisions. This structure allows for Plant Operations and Maintenance to provide the best quality support to the University. Each division is headed by highly qualified and experienced personnel.
The General Supervison Section of Plant Operations and Maintenance provides administrative leadership to all POM areas.
The Building Maintenance Section of Plant Operations and Maintenance is responsible for maintaining, servicing and repairing the building structures, electrical systems and plumbing systems on campus.
Campus Services consists of 2 sections. Building Services and Grounds Maintenance. These sections provide a clean, safe, and beautiful environment for students, staff, and faculty to accomplish their educational goals and encourages environmental awareness and responsibility at the University and in the community.
Utility Maintenance Section of the Plant Operations and Maintenance Department develops comprehensive plans for generation of steam and chilled water to the buildings and the maintenance of the heating ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems. This section repairs, services, and maintains the university heating, air conditioning, and ventilation system (HVAC).
All services provided for Non Educational and General (Non E&G) Departments are chargeable.
Repairs made in mechanical rooms not including equipment such as (boilers, air handlers, hot water heaters, filtration systems, etc.) are considered a part of the building infrastructure and is typically not chargeable services.
