Peer Mentor Program

FAMU Peer Mentor Program assists in the successful transition of new students to FAMU by joining them with upper-class students who function as role models, mentors, and connections to resources.

Peer Mentor Program

Why Mentorship?

At the Office of Freshmen Studies, we believe mentorship has a significant impact on the successful transition of the first-year student from high school to college. We recognize that supporting freshmen with a second year or higher academic classes can help them navigate through the opportunities as well as the challenges that are common when
going through college.

The FYE Peer Mentor Program supports freshmen students by pairing each student with
a second year or more senior student while enrolled in SLS courses. Freshmen students meet with the mentor several times throughout the semester where they will be connected to resources to support them with career development, personal wellness, social and academic adjustment, as well as financial literacy.

Our Values:
  • Professionalism: We treat others with respect
  • Due Diligence: We value our work and always follow through
  • Communication: We love to connect, exchange ideas, and feedback
  • Growth: We look to evolve personally as individuals and as the future workforce
  • Family: We are excellent in caring
