Program Requirements & Courses

Students admitted to the Honors Center are required to complete one of three stratified tracks.

Honors Courses
Special sections of required courses from the University’s General Education sequence are offered as honors courses each semester. These courses enable students to fulfill the requirements of the University Honors Center and the requirements in their areas of study also. Students may also earn honors credits through Honors Course Contracts.

An Honors Course Contract enables students to receive honors credits in a regular course. A student who chooses to earn honors credits through this process must enter into a contract with the professor of the course and agree to perform above and beyond the level of the regular class.

Note: A professor is not obligated to honor such a contract. A grade of "A" or "B" must be earned in order to receive honors credits.

It is strongly recommended that the 18 hours of honors credits for Tracks I and III be completed during the freshman and sophomore years. Track II is designed for students who enter the center the first semester of their junior year. In this track, students are required to complete a minimum of 12 hours of honors credits.

Students in Tracks II and III must also complete the Honors-in-the-Major Thesis/Project and must make a commitment to do so the first semester of their senior year. The project must be completed, professionally bound, and submitted to the Honors Center office one month prior to the date of graduation.
